Discover Applications

You can discover existing applications based on tags, ServiceNow, names, flows, and advanced properties, and add them into
VMware Aria Operations for Networks
.
  1. To discover existing applications in your environment, from the left navigation panel, click
    Applications
    Add Applications
  2. You can discover applications in multiple ways. Select the preferred tab and perform the related steps.

    Description
    Flows
    Use flow based application discovery if you want to discover applications by analyzing the traffic patterns and network flows in your environment.
    Flow based application discovery is automated and does not require any user input to start the discovery.
    VM Attributes
    Use VM Attributes based application discovery if your VMs follow a logical naming pattern, or if you have added tags for virtual machines in your
    VMware vCenter
    , Azure, AWS, or VMware
    NSX
     environments, or if you want to discover applications using a combination of VM names, NSX-V security tags, security groups, tags from
    VMware vCenter
    , Azure, AWS, or VMware
    NSX
     environments.
    ServiceNow
    Use ServiceNow based application discovery if you have mapped your applications in ServiceNow.
    Add Manually
    Use add manually to create an application manually by adding tiers and members.

    The following limitations apply when discovering applications in
    VMware Aria Operations for Networks

    Only 3000 applications are displayed on the table view.

    You cannot add a new tier.
    Tiers per application

    You cannot add a new tier.
    Members per tier

    You cannot add a new tier. You can only update the existing applications to reduce tiers and members.

    The application page does not show any useful information such as microsegmentation, metrics, and analytics.
    To gain complete visibility of the application, you must reduce the application members.
    Also,
    VMware Aria Operations for Networks
     raises the following alert:
    Application Membership limit exceeded
    .
    Flows per application

    The application topology does not load on the respective application page.
