Manage the
VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions
 Operator

The
VMware Cloud Director Data Solutions operator
 is a back-end service, which runs within each tenant
Kubernetes
 cluster.

Install the
VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions
 operator

To run
VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions
 in a
Kubernetes
 cluster, you must install a
VMware Cloud Director Data Solutions operator
.
Verify that you are assigned with the
Tenant VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions operator
 role. See Tenant user roles and rights.
The
Data Solutions operator
 manages the lifecycle of user resources in
Kubernetes
 clusters upon user requests, sent through
VMware Cloud Director
 Resource Defined Entities. The resources include both data solution operators like
Tanzu RabbitMQ
 operators for
Kubernetes
 and data solution instances like
Tanzu RabbitMQ
. It deploys, upgrades and updates various data solutions in
Kubernetes
 clusters on behalf of the user.
After installing the
Data Solutions operator
, you might observe certificate authority (CA) key pair error events in the
VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions
 workload, until the CA key pair is verified. The process takes a few seconds.
  1. Log in to
    VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions
     from
    VMware Cloud Director
    .
  2. Click
    Settings
    Kubernetes Operator
    .
  3. Select the
    Kubernetes
     cluster where you want to run
    VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions
    , and click
    Install Operator
    .
    It takes a few minutes for the Operator Status of the cluster to change to Active.
If your cloud provider has set up
VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions
 with a private container registry, a tenant cluster owner must configure the cluster to trust the private registry certificate, so that the cluster can pull container images.

Set upgrade policy for the
Data Solutions operator

You can set an upgrade policy for the
Data Solutions operator
 of a
Kubernetes
 cluster.
  1. Log in to
    VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions
     from
    VMware Cloud Director
    .
  2. Click
    Settings
    Kubernetes Operator
     and select the
    Kubernetes
     cluster whose
    Data Solutions operator
     you want to edit.
  3. Click
    Set Upgrade Policy
    .
    • If you want the
      Data Solutions operator
       to update automatically, select
      Auto upgrade to the latest version
      .
    • If you want the
      Data Solutions operator
       to remain at a specific version and not update, select
      Fix to version
       and specify the version.

Uninstall the
Data Solutions operator

If you want to reconfigure your system, you can uninstall the
Data Solutions operator
 from the cluster.
Uninstalling the
Data Solutions operator
 removes all solution instances from the cluster.
  1. Log in to
    VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions
     from
    VMware Cloud Director
    .
  2. Click
    Settings
    Kubernetes Operator
     and select the Kubernetes cluster whose
    Data Solutions operator
     you want to uninstall.
  3. Click
    Uninstall Operator
    , then click
    OK
    .
  4. Follow the post-uninstallation instructions to update your Kubernetes cluster.
