Design for a Virtual Infrastructure Workload Domain
A design model for a virtual infrastructure (VI) workload domain of a VMware Cloud Foundation™ instance (also called VCF) that is based on the industry best practices for SDDC implementation.

Deployment Options in This DesignThis design guidance is for the standard architecture model of
VMware Cloud Foundation
. By following the guidance, you can examine the design for these deployment options:- SingleVMware Cloud Foundationinstance. This is the default configuration of the design.
- SingleVMware Cloud Foundationinstance with multiple availability zones (also known as stretched deployment). A cluster in the VI workload domain that is shared between the NSX edge nodes and the customer workloads is stretched between two availability zones by using vSAN and configuring vSphere DRS rules and BGP on the NSX Edge nodes accordingly.
- MultipleVMware Cloud Foundationinstances. You deploy several instances ofVMware Cloud Foundation, using NSX Federation for cross-instance services to SDDC management components.
- MultipleVMware Cloud Foundationwith multiple availability zones. You apply the configuration for the stretched cluster in the VI workload domain for a singleVMware Cloud Foundationinstance to one or moreVMware Cloud Foundationinstances in your environment.
In certain areas, configuration and design decision alternatives for each deployment option are available.
Automation for This Design in VMware Cloud Foundation
VMware Cloud Foundation
The configuration tasks for the majority of the design decisions are automated by VMware Cloud Foundation. You must perform the configuration manually only for a limited number of decisions as noted in the design implication.
