Create a Virtual
Machine for Any Supported Operating System
You can create a
virtual machine with a guest operating system that does not have an Easy
Install option if the guest operating system is supported by
Fusion
.
- If you are installing the guest operating system from an image file, verify that the image file is in a directory that is accessible to the host system.The image file is an ISO file or, for a macOS 10 virtual machine, a.appfile. A.appfile for a macOS 10 operating system is available at the App Store.
- If you are installing the guest operating system from a physical disc, insert the operating system installation disc into your Mac.
Fusion
does not
include any operating systems to install in virtual machines that you create.
You must obtain the operating system and any necessary product keys.
Unless you specify a file
location for a virtual machine when you create it,
Fusion
saves
the virtual machine package to a default location, which can vary. See
Default File Location of a Virtual Machine.

- In theFinishpanel, you can use default settings or customize the settings before powering on the virtual machine to start the operating system installation.OptionActionTo create the virtual machine according to the specifications listed in the Finish panel
- ClickFinish.
- Indicate the location to save the virtual machine to or accept the default, such as thefolder.your home directory/Virtual Machines
- To share the virtual machine with other users on the Mac host, save the virtual machine to theSharedfolder and select theShare this virtual machine with other users on this Maccheck box. Deselect the check box to save to theSharedfolder but not share the virtual machine with other users on the Mac host. See Creating a Shared Virtual Machine in Fusion.
To change disk size or other standard settings of the virtual machine- ClickCustomize Settings.
- Save the new virtual machine.
- Make changes to the virtual machine’s disk size, processor usage, removable devices, and other configurations on theSettingswindow.
After you install the
operating system in the virtual machine, install VMware Tools.
