Tanzu RabbitMQ OCI 4.0

Overview of VMware Tanzu RabbitMQ OCI

Last Updated March 14, 2025

Introduction to Tanzu RabbitMQ OCI

Tanzu RabbitMQ OCI is a standalone OCI image. This container image includes the popular open-source RabbitMQ messaging and streaming solution (but without the operators), the Erlang runtime, and other dependencies as well as commercial plug-ins.

VMware Tanzu RabbitMQ OCI was formerly known as VMware RabbitMQ OCI.

Use Tanzu RabbitMQ OCI only if you don’t have a Kubernetes environment available or you are using non-Kubernetes container orchestration. The Kubernetes operator for RabbitMQ, which offers complete management of RabbitMQ clusters, is the recommended choice. For more information, see the VMware Tanzu RabbitMQ for Kubernetes documentation.

While Tanzu RabbitMQ OCI in many ways is a less convenient approach, you can use this standalone OCI image in situations that require it. For example, if you want to run a standalone RabbitMQ or a small RabbitMQ cluster using multiple containers. It allows for a quick and lightweight deployment.

Tanzu RabbitMQ OCI Features

Tanzu RabbitMQ OCI has many features, including:

  • A ready-to-run container image (OCI)
  • Dependencies curated and integrated by RabbitMQ engineers
  • Safety by default
  • Warm Standby Replication
  • An extended support life cycle
  • Intra-cluster compression
  • 24/7 support backed by RabbitMQ engineers
