Delete accounts and data sources from Tanzu Platform

Last Updated February 19, 2025

You delete accounts or data sources when you no longer want to manage the resources using Tanzu Platform.

When you delete an account or detach a Kubernetes cluster, data is no longer collected from the data source and added to the graph database. Tanzu Platform does not delete the entity data. By retaining the data, you can reinstate the deleted account and allow Tanzu Platform and the underlying services to access the existing entity configuration data rather than starting over.

When you decommission an organization, the decommission process deletes the entity data from the database.

Delete an account

Each account type has slightly different requirements before you can delete the account. Before you can delete an account from Tanzu Platform, you might be required to detach clusters and deactivate the event monitoring on the target system.

The delete action includes a workflow to guide you through the removal process for the account type. If the account includes attached Kubernetes clusters, you must detach the clusters before deleting the account from Tanzu Platform. Detaching the clusters requires you to delete the Tanzu Platform collector installed in the cluster. After the collector is offline, you can then detach the clusters. If you need to deactivate event monitoring, the workflow includes the instructions, script, and command to disconnect monitoring.

To delete an account:

  1. In the Tanzu Platform UI, go to Administration > Infrastructure accounts > Public Cloud accounts.
  2. Click the double arrows next to the account to open the account details.
  3. Click Delete.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the account deletion process.
  5. Click Delete Account. 2.

  6. Click the double arrows next to the Cloud Foundry foundation to open the collector details.
  7. Click Delete.
  8. Wait for the collector to become offline, then click Delete to delete the collector.

Detach a Kubernetes cluster

You can detach Kubernetes clusters as part of the deleting an account. To detach a cluster without deleting the account, you can perform the task directly from the Kubernetes cluster details page.

The detach action is available for attached clusters. If the cluster status is Discovered or Pending, it is not attached.

The detach workflow provides the command that you must run to remove the collector before you detach the cluster.

  1. In the Tanzu Platform UI, go to Administration > Infrastructure configuration > Kubernetes Clusters.
  2. Click the vertical ellipsis next to the cluster you want to detach.
  3. Click Detach.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the cluster detachment process.
  5. Wait for the collector to become offline, then click Detach.
