When working in Tanzu Platform, where most of the collected information is presented in lists or in graphical topology views, the ability to locate particular resources is important. You might be searching for a resource that is missing from an application, you might want to find a resource because one of your customers is having problems, or you might be reconciling outside lists of resources with the discovered resources in Tanzu Platform.
Search allows you to construct complex search queries to locate resources based on cloud providers, properties, tags, and using various operators to ensure that you retrieve a manageable list of results.
Before you begin
Review the search reference material provided in Graph database search query construction in Tanzu Platform so that you can construct the search that returns the required results. You can create search queries of the graph database in Tanzu Platform to locate particular resources you can work with in Tanzu Platform.
Create a detailed search query
When you know the resources that you are looking for, you can create a specific query that either retrieves the resources or limits the results to the point that you can apply a filter.
-
In the Tanzu Platform UI, go to Infrastructure > Search.
You can see sample search queries in the Sample Queries tab.
-
To limit your search results, select a Project in the Project: drop-down menu in the header.
-
Enter a search query.
For example,
Vmw.vc.vm has properties.GuestGuestFamily = linuxGuest
. -
If the query is useful and you want to reuse it, click Save and enter a name. The saved searches are available on the Saved Queries tab.
-
Click the Resource Count in the list of discovered resources.
-
Continue exploring until you find the correct resource or until you gather the information that you need.
Review your discovered inventory
As a Tanzu Platform administrator who wants to view the resources in your environment based on the services discovered from your accounts, you can use the inventory as a starting point.
To get an accounting of your discovered resources by service so that you understand the breadth of your environment, you can review the services by provider or other filters. The information is presented in a tabular form with resource totals.
- In the Tanzu Platform UI, go to Infrastructure > Search.
-
Click Inventory.
The Inventory lists the discovered services. You can filter the list and explore the results.
-
To view the resource types associated with the service, click the double arrows to the left of the Service column.
- To open the resources in the Search Results view, click the number in the Resource Count column.
-
In the Search Results view, select a resource to see information about that resource, including the relationship that the resource has with other resources.
