Metric analytics and overlays provide percentile calculations and anomaly detection to performance analysis and visualization. You can also see the distribution of metrics and anomalies for a specific time period.
Percentiles are a statistical approach to compare data points, and provide a better way to understand performance trends and whether service-level objectives (SLOs) are being met. The anomaly overlay feature calculates a baseline for a single metric and highlights anomalies on the chart for quick identification.
The metric analytics and overlay features provide the following benefits:
- Improved decision making: You can leverage percentile and anomaly insights to make informed decisions based on the distribution of data and anomalous behavior.
- Customizable analytics: The ability to define custom percentiles and select specific time frames gives users maximum flexibility in their analysis.
- Enhanced visualization: Visualization options, including the anomaly overlay feature, allow you to easily interpret data trends, anomalies, and performance thresholds.
Analytics | Description |
---|---|
Anomaly detection | Calculates the baseline and highlights the data that exceeds three standard deviations. |
Custom percentile aggregation | Calculate percentile aggregations for any metric, with the ability to define custom percentiles up to two decimal places. Tanzu Platform collects data at specific intervals by our various collectors and agents. The percentile calculations are based on the data we store. Pre-defined standard percentile options are available for quick selection: P50, P75, P90, P95, and P99. |
Single and multi-time series data support | Calculate and display percentiles for both single-series and multi-time series data, enabling you to compare percentile distributions across multiple datasets. |
Flexible time frame selection | Select a time frame over which they want to calculate percentiles, giving them flexibility in analyzing trends and performance over different periods. |
Visualization options | Select up to 2 percentiles for visualization on any specific widget, enabling you to easily view data against key performance thresholds. |
View metric analytics and overlays
You can view analytics on any metric widget available on Tanzu Platform for applications, Cloud Foundry and Kubernetes infrastructure, and runbooks.
For example, to view analytics on a metric widget:
-
On Tanzu Platform, click on an application or a Cloud Foundry or Kubernetes infrastructure.
- To see all apps, go to Applications > Apps.
- To see all Cloud Foundry foundations, go to Infrastructure > Foundations.
- To see all Kubernetes clusters, go to Infrastructure > Kubernetes Clusters.
-
Click on a tab, such as Performance that has a metrics widget.
- On a widget that has time series data, click Analytics.
-
Select up to two analytics options from the list.
The metrics widget updates with the selected analytics overlaid on the time series data.
Features available on a metrics widget
The metrics widget has the following additional functionality that allow you to better visualize the data.
Feature | Description |
---|---|
Full-screen view | Use full-screen mode when working with multi-series metrics or presenting data in meetings. To use the feature, click the full-Screen icon in the widget’s toolbar to expand the widget to fill the entire screen. The full-screen view feature is particularly useful for multi-series metric widgets, where detailed visualization is required. The expanded view provides clear insights and enhanced focus on complex data visualizations. |
Zoom in/Out | Use the zoom feature to identify trends or anomalies over precise time ranges. Use the graph selection method for quick, targeted zooming. To use the feature, click the time icon in the widget toolbar and select a zoom level, for example, Zoom In 1 Hour or Zoom Out 1 Day, from the dropdown menu. Alternatively, zoom in by selecting a specific time range directly on the graph:
The zoom feature allows you to focus on specific time periods or zoom out for broader trends. You get the following benefits:
|
Time sync across widgets | Use the time sync feature for dashboards with interdependent widgets to ensure consistency and clarity. To use the feature,
